Your research is best represented by error-free, clear communication. For a number of reasons, including time restrictions, it can be hard to distance yourself from your writing in a way that enables good copy-editing and proofreading. If you have any doubts, send me an excerpt of your writing, and I can give you a sample edit to show where improvements could be made.
Although it can seem easy to remove typos or improve communication, professional editors have the qualifications and, importantly, the experience to make systematic and consistent improvements. Some of my clients have passed their thesis without corrections or had papers accepted for publication without the need for revisions. As a former academic, I know how much time, energy and angst is saved by presenting pristine work. Editing is a valuable service.
That being said, I work very hard to ensure my work is affordable to clients, especially students who don’t have any external funding. If you have a limited budget, please contact me — we can work out a plan to suit your needs.
For short papers (up to 6000 words) a working week is more than enough, and schedule permitting, I can work to a 48-hour deadline for most smaller pieces. For a thesis, I recommend at least a fortnight.
No, I can edit chapters as they become available but you may want a final proofread or even an extra ‘spot’ check for consistency. I advise against sending drafts for editing — sending your final version is the best way to maintain consistency and accuracy.
I’m the first to admit that editing is my strength, and formatting is not. I can help you with formatting but am probably not the most cost effective option if that is your greatest concern.
